I would like to get your advice concerning a very controversial subject. depression and medication. one year ago our 16 month old nephew (the youngest of five) drowned in the family swimming pool. It has been a very hard year for everyone in our family. prior to jacob’s death the marriage was under immense strain, and now is being torn apart. the parents of Jacob were almost immediately given antidepressants by their doctor. It has come to the point now, that Jacobs dad has been admitted to a mental hospital. He is very depressed, out of control and is being placed on many different medications. he is under suicide watch. jacobs mother is very angry, bitter, and likewise depressed. how can we help point this family to Christ and seek reconcilation and healing? isn’t this a heart issue and not a medical issue? help!!! their hearts are broken and discouraged and everytime i bring up that Christ is sufficient to meet all of their needs i get the “it’s a chemical imbalance i need the meds to survive”

Please get Wayne Mack’s book Out of the Blues from Audubon Press or http://www.mackministries.org for a biblical perpective on depression. In the book you will find a biblical description of depresson, information about the dvelopment of depression and information about the defeat of depression. Your questions will be answered there.

He showed this clip during the Intro to biblical counseling class this past summer, here in AR. It is so funny…but really when we have a sin issue we are supposed to “STOP IT!!” Thanks for sharing this…By the way, we love your dad and are praying for him and you, as you raise your support.
God speed
